My social workflow

Began reworking some of my workflow again tonight. Looks like the following will work pretty well...

Blog Posts and Longer Posts
When I need to actually write, I will be using Posterous exclusively. I scrapped my Wordpress install a while ago after I got tired of constantly fiddling with widgets, themes and updates. Don't get me wrong, Wordpress is an awesome tool. But like Windows, it requires a lot of maintenance to keep things running smoothly. And while that was fun for a while, it became a real pain in the ass after a couple of months. And since Posterous now displays very well on iPhone, the last reason to keep Wordpress around is gone.

Posterous is also the place where I will share images (photos) as a I snap them from my iPhone - something I hope to do a lot more of in the future. I have configured Autopost to share whatever I put up on Posterous to Twitter, my Facebook Fan Page and Buzz (actually, Buzz does the grabbing since there is no autopost for Buzz in Posterous).

Link Shares and MicroBlogging
I have decided to no longer share links via Posterous (unless I want to write extensive commentary along with a shared link). For these types of posts, I am now using Ping.fm to autopost to Twitter, Buzz and my Facebook Fan Page. I cannot seem to get something I post to Posterous from Ping.fm to not autopost back out and duplicate content on Twitter and Buzz, so I have decided to not even worry about it.

I have pretty much stopped using FriendFeed altogether because it is a ghost town. The only content I see posted there lately is Tweets and other stuff which I get in other streams like Buzz. So while I still think FriendFeed was better than Buzz as an aggregation tool, there is simply not enough signal there any more.

What about Buzz?
For a while, I decided that Buzz was too complicated and the interface too clunky to be useful. I still feel that way, but enough of the people I follow have moved over to Buzz that I feel compelled to start using it more. So far, the engagement is very lite. I never get comments (well hardly ever) and its a lot harder to start and follow conversation (even your own). Buzz needs a lot more polish and not sure why it is taking so long for Google to fix their mess, but I will be patient for now and keep working with Buzz to see if it gets any easier/better. Will post about that another time.
